When one of your Circle Go enabled devices puts off a personal hotspot you'll get a notification that the device "...is using Personal Hotspot (possibly avoiding Circle Go)." Why do we let you know about this and what can you do?
Personal Hotspots and Circle Go
Because of the way personal hotspots work any devices that connect to them will not have their traffic managed or filtered by Circle Go. If your family member turns on their personal hotspot and and then connects other devices to this network those devices will be able to access the internet without filtering or counting against their time limit. The moment they turn their personal hotspot on you will get a notification from the Circle Home app, indicating that this is happening.
Circle Go will still manage the traffic of the device projecting this hotspot, but cannot manage the traffic for devices that are connected to the hotspot. If these devices also have Circle Go their filtering will be still be in place.
What can I do about this?
If your family member is attempting to get around Circle Go by using their personal hotspot we recommend contacting your mobile carrier. Most will allow you to turn this feature off. We recommend doing so, especially if you have a limited data plan where overages count against you! In addition, if your family member's other devices are compatible (running iOS 9+ or Android 4.1+) we suggest enabling Circle Go on them.
