Huawei Devices and Circle
Circle Parental Controls
Are you having issues with the Circle VPN turning off and not coming back on with your Huawei Android Device?
It appears that there is an issue caused by custom battery optimization settings implemented in Huawei’s mobile OS, EMUI, built on top of Android. The Circle app already requests to ignore device battery optimizations but Huawei’s specific implementation seems to circumvent that.
Here's how to fix it:
- Go to Settings on your Huawei device
- Select Apps
- Tap Settings at the bottom of the screen
- Select Special Access
- Select Ignore Optimizations
- Select Circle from the list and tap on Allow.
NOTE: The battery settings may be on a different menu on your specific device model. If the above instructions don't work for you, you could try the following
- Go to Phone Settings
- Go to the Apps section
- Select Circle and select App Info
- Tap on Battery
- Make sure the Power-intensive prompt option is disabled
- On the same page, switch Launch from Automatic to Manage Manually
- Enable all the Manage Manually options
Are you having an issue with your Huawei Android Device and trying to install Circle Go? You may experience issues installing and/or using Circle Go on these devices, because of incompatibilities at the operating system level on Huawei-manufactured Android device.
Symptoms
The main symptom of this issue that you will experience is the VPN will fail to activate unless the MyCircle app is left in the foreground. Since leaving the MyCircle app in the foreground is unrealistic, we have deemed Circle Go incompatible with Huawei products other than the Nexus 6P.
Incompatible Products
At this time, we cannot support Huawei products, with one exception: the Nexus 6P should work just fine. If your product is listed as manufactured by "Huawei" in the Circle app (on the "Device Summary" screen for the product), and is not a Nexus 6P, Circle Go will not work properly. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes.
