Having problems adding your kid's phone as a Kid device in the Circle App? Try out these steps.
Check that both devices have Internet access.
Both devices need to have a strong Internet connection in order to register a new device. Make sure that you have strong connectivity via Wi-Fi or cellular data.
Ensure you're using the Parent version of the app.
Only the Parent version of the app can register mobile devices. To switch a device with the Kid app over to the Parent app, follow these steps:
- Uninstall the app. On Android, make sure to clear app data first.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Apps (or Applications).
- Tap Storage.
- Tap Clear App Data.
- Go back and tap Uninstall.
- Download the Circle App again, from either the iOS App Store or Google Play Store.
- Launch the app and tap "Get Started."
- Accept the Terms and Conditions.
- Tap "Set up as Parent device" and sign in with your Circle Account.
Go to the correct section of the Circle App.
Once signed in to the Circle App as a Parent, you'll want to make sure you're in the right place in order to add a Kid device.
- Tap your kid's Profile.
- Tap "Devices."
- Tap "Add mobile device," and follow the in-app prompts.
Restart the Circle App on both devices.
Sometimes things just need a quick refresh. Force close and relaunch the app on both the Parent and Kid device and try again.
Make sure both devices have the most current version of the Circle App.
Go to the iOS App Store or Google Play Store on each device to see if there are any updates available.
Make sure the Parent app has permission to use the camera.
Since the camera is used on the parent device to view the QR code, the app needs to have access to the camera. If the "scan device" screen displays a blank box, that means camera permissions were revoked from the Circle App. To rectify this, follow these instructions:
On iOS:
- Open the iOS system Settings app.
- Scroll down and tap "Circle App."
- Make sure "Camera" is enabled.
On Android:
- Open the Android system Settings app.
- Tap "Apps" (or "Applications").
- Tap "Circle App."
- Tap "Permissions."
- Make sure "Camera" is enabled.
Uninstall and reinstall the Circle App.
As a last measure, uninstall and reinstall the Circle App, first from the Kid device, and then from the Parent device.
In iOS:
- Lightly press and hold on the Circle App icon from your home screen, then tap the "X" icon when it appears.
- After the app is removed, download it again from the iOS App Store.
On Android:
- Open the Android system Settings app.
- Tap "Apps" (or "Applications").
- Tap "Circle App."
- Tap "Storage."
- Tap "Clear App Data."
- Delete the Circle App.
- Download the Circle App again from the Android Play Store.
