How does the Circle device handle IPv6 connections?
The Circle device detects and manages native IPv6 and IPv4 connections, depending on your home setup. The Circle device can work with IPv6 when a home network is configured for that network protocol.
With the release of Circle Home Plus firmware version 220.127.116.11 we’ve included improvements to support for IPv6. This should improve tracking and filtering in dual-stack networks.
What is IPv6?
Every device on the Internet gets assigned what's known as an "IP Address" (or, "Internet Protocol Address") to help that device be identified and located across the Internet. It's like a street address for the Internet.
There are different versions of this address system, and the most recent version widely available is "Internet Protocol version 6," or IPv6. The current thinking among the builders of Internet technology is that in order to accommodate a very large number of devices online globally, IPv6 will eventually replace the old standard, IPv4.
For most Internet users, the difference between IPv4 and IPv6 is largely invisible.
If you encounter issues with a family member's Insights missing data or are unable to fully pause a device, you might be encountering an issue with IPv6 and your Circle device. Try turning off IPv6 in your router settings, and see if that resolves the issue. You might also try a different connection for Circle (WiFi versus Ethernet to your router). As well, you may need to make sure the device is assigned correctly to your profile.
