For a number of reasons families might want to filter iMessage or other messaging apps like it. Circle currently doesn't manage Calls or Texts, and you can read more about that in our article, "Can Circle Manage Calls or Texts?" In addition, Circle cannot manage iMessage in the vast majority of cases.
Why can't Circle manage iMessage?
Circle doesn't manage cellular capabilities like calls or SMS text messages. The iMessage system uses a number of fall back methods to make sure that its messages get through. These delivery methods operate outside of what Circle can manage, so those connections will often go through despite Circle management being properly in place.
Exception for Wi-Fi only devices
There is one scenario where Circle will be able to filter iMessages:
- iMessage must be used on a Wi-Fi only device that does not have data or SMS ability.
- The device must be connected to your Circle-managed network.
- The device is under a Pause, Bedtime, Focus Time, or a Daily Time Limit has been reached.
- The profile the device is assigned to does not have any apps, websites or categories set to "Unmanaged".
