Over the past couple of years, the lines between Facebook and Instagram (owned by Facebook) have become increasingly blurry. Because of this, there are some known issues related to managing these Apps or Websites when a family member's Filter or Time Limit settings are set differently between these apps.
We recommend setting both of these apps to the same Filter permission. In other words, set both apps to Allowed or both apps to Not Allowed. It's also important to note that because the apps share underlying infrastructure, Time Limit enforcement for one app may be impacted by usage on the other app.
If you decide to set different Filter permissions for Facebook and Instagram, please note the following issues that you may experience.
If Instagram is Allowed but Facebook Not Allowed
- Instagram messaging may not work properly because the service relies on Facebook, and Facebook is filtered out.
- Instagram feed images may fail to load because the image is actually stored with Facebook
If Instagram is Not Allowed but Facebook is Allowed
- Instagram messaging and notifications will continue to go through because the service relies on Facebook and Facebook is not filtered out
If you're still unable to get Instagram images to load after setting Facebook to "Allowed" or are running into issues with one of these services continuing to work when it ought to be blocked, please contact support using the options below.
