Wondering how to customize your Profile Filters for each family member? You're in the right place! We've included information about our default Apps or Websites, Additional Apps or Websites, Categories, and Privacy & Safety features for Circle here.
Popular Apps and Websites
Circle includes popular online apps and websites that help make filtering content easy. You can set individual Time Limits up for each of these apps or websites, or set them to Allowed, Not Allowed (blocked at all times), or Unmanaged (available always and not tracked in Usage/History). Which Apps and Categories that are set to "Not Allowed" differ by Filter Level.
The Kid Filter level is the most restrictive and Adult being the most lenient. Note: If you want your kiddos to have access to apps or websites like Facebook or Snapchat you'll need to set those to Allowed on the Filter Settings for their Profile.
Learn more about each Filter Level and what apps or categories are blocked on each here.

In the chart below you'll see the app or website name, its overarching Category (note that individual app or website settings below take precedent over the Category), and if the site or app is allowed by default for each Filter Level.

Filtering a Popular App or Website
To filter an app or website and make sure a family member cannot reach it:
- Open the appropriate family member's profile.
- Tap Filter.
- Find the correct app or website. You might need to scroll down.
- Tap the toggle to the right of your preferred App/Website until it's in the Not Allowed position.
- Tap Save in the upper right-hand corner.
Note: Here you can also set apps or websites to Allowed or Unmanaged.
Filtering Additional Apps or Websites
Some Apps or Websites are not visible by default. Here's how to filter them:
- On the kid device belonging to the profile you want manage the App or Website on, access that specific website or service.
- Open the Circle app and navigate to the appropriate profile.
- Tap Usage and locate the app or website in the list. If it does not appear, make sure you have spent at least 5 minutes actively using it before checking. You may otherwise find it in the History feature instead.
- Once found, tap the app/website and choose "Add to Apps." From that same menu, you can also set a Time Limit or set it to be Not Allowed or Unmanaged. All options will add this app or website to your list of under the Filters feature of this profile.
- In the future, you can now manage this app or website from the Filter feature.
You can also add additional Apps to your profile by tapping on "Add Apps & Websites" button at the bottom of the Filter List and checking for the App you want to add. Note: only Apps available on that Filter level will appear in the search.
Categories
Circle's filter categories give you a simple way to adjust what your Family Members see online. Just like the popular apps or above you can set a category of websites to Allowed, Not Allowed, or Unmanaged. Sites within that category, except the popular apps and websites above, will be Allowed, Not Allowed, or Unmanaged based on what you set.
There are some items to keep in mind when using Circle's categories for filtering:
- The settings you make for individual apps or websites will take precedent over Categories. For example, if you set Facebook to Allowed on a profile, but set Social Media to Not Allowed, Facebook will still load. See more on that here.
- Some Circle categories are by default Not Allowed for a filter level. An example on the Kid Filter Level is the Chat and Forums category which by default is Not Allowed on the kid filter level. You can allow that by setting the Category to Allowed. For info on the default Filter Levels and the categories allowed, see here.
- You can tell what category a site falls under by heading to Usage on the profile. The website will show up under the category there. You can see a guide for finding a sites category here (Discord is used as an example).
Here are the categories and their default settings for each filter level.

Because these technologies are employed to hide online activity, Circle will be unable to filter content while a user employs a VPN or proxy.
Filtering a Category
To filter a Category and make sure a family member cannot reach it:
- Open the appropriate family member's profile.
- Tap Filter.
- Find the correct Category. You might need to scroll down.
- Tap the toggle for the category to set it as Not Allowed.
- Tap Save in the upper right-hand corner.
Privacy & Safety
Circle's filter settings also come equipped with a few Privacy & Safety tools that you can use in your home. Here is what they are.
- Safe Search
Safe Search eliminates sexually explicit content from search results. Circle currently supports Google and Bing Safe Search, and when Safe Search is enabled, access to Yahoo will be disabled. See here for more info. - YouTube Restricted Mode
YouTube provides a kid friendly version of their app that is very similar to "Restricted Mode". The resources that the YouTube Kid app uses to load those videos are dependent on the same ones that YouTube loads. This means you won't be able to set YouTube to "Not Allowed" using Circle and still have YouTube Kids load videos. Instead, you can enable YouTube Restricted Mode on the profile and use the YouTube app to load content. The level of filtering that Restricted Mode on Circle uses is very similar to what the YouTube Kid app uses.
Turning on Safety Features
- Open the appropriate family member's profile.
- Tap Filter.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page.
- Press the button next to the appropriate Safety Feature to turn it from "Off" to "On."
- Tap Save in the upper right-hand corner.
